Solder sucker

I didnt realize when I ordered this from Amazon that it wasnt Amazon prime.  It showed up today from China after being ordered earlier this month.  Sort of a nice surprise since i had forgotten about ordering it so I thought I’d try it out tonight.

Long story short I love the thing.  This works WAY better than the soldering braid, but as I type this Im realizing this didn’t work particularly well on the braided wire.  So maybe the soldering braid would work better on the solid core stuff too?  I bet it would…  At any rate – I thought I’d desolder the LED off the perfboard from the last post.  With this tool it was super easy to do…

The first thing I did was remove the end of the red wire from the solder joint.  Using the sucker is sort of an odd deal.  The tip of it is plastic so it cant be right next to or on the iron because it would melt.  So you need to charge the sucker by pressing the spring down, then heat up the joint until liquid, then quickly remove the iron and get the solder sucker in and press the button.  This is what it looks like after…

Sort of hard to see but you can see the solder mound is now gone and you can clearly see a ring around the terminal.  I then did the next one and the LED popped right out…

So for the 3 or 4 bucks this cost I’d say its totally worth it.
